Study Abroad Scholarships 2012 International students at Australia

Study Abroad Scholarships 2012 International students at Australia

The Walter Mangold Trust Fund is a newly established Charitable Fund which originates from arrangements made under the Wills of the late Anne Marie and Erwin Herzenberg.

The Fund commemorates the beliefs and achievements of Walter Mangold the father of Anne Marie Herzenberg. Walter Mangold devoted a good proportion of his life and energies to the teaching of languages and came to the conclusion that better understanding between peoples, and consequently lessening of conflict, could be achieved by improving communication between them. The objects of the Fund, though relating to a number of specific issues and outcomes, are reflective of those underlying principles and beliefs.

Anne Marie and Erwin Herzenberg set aside the substantial part of their assets to establish the Fund. The foresight and benefaction of the Herzenberg family should enable the fund to make a worthwhile contribution to the study of languages in Australia and more widely, and to the development of understanding between peoples by virtue of study and dissemination of their languages.

The Fund has 7 objects, which can be summarised as follows:

- the provision of educational scholarships to enable young Australians to spend a period of time in a foreign country to study in a foreign language;
- the provision of scholarships to overseas students who apply to come to Australia to advance their knowledge of English and to gain an understanding in one or more areas of Australian culture;
- the appointment of a visiting Scholar or Fellow to the University of Melbourne;
- the encouragement of inter-disciplinary studies, which involve the study of a language;
- the support of a vacation school in a foreign language conducted in Australia;
- the awarding of grants or scholarships to the Australian Institute of International Affairs (Victorian Branch)or for its purposes;
- Support of a published work of education merit which makes a contribution to the aims of the Trust.

In accordance with guidelines in the Will which established the Trust, the Trustee determines for each grant round from which countries the Study In Australia scholarships are sourced, and to which countries the Study Abroad scholars travel.

2012 Study Abroad Scholarships

This year, Study Abroad Scholarships for travel in 2012 will be advertised in two separate grant rounds; for exchanges in Semester 1 and in Semester 2.

Undergrad: Murdoch International Discoverers’ Scholarship Scheme up to A$5,500/yr, Australia

Undergrad: Murdoch International Discoverers’ Scholarship Scheme up to A$5,500/yr, Australia
Australia’s Murdoch University will start offering scholarships of up to A$5,500 (RM16,797) for eligible students next year, to pre-empt a possible drop in foreign enrolments due to rising academic costs Down Under. Since 2003, the Australian dollar has climbed steadily against the ringgit, gaining as much as 13 per cent at the current RM2.81. At the same time, the UK — another favoured destination of Malaysian students — has seen the sterling pound slide from RM6.20 then to present RM4.88.
The university’s senior deputy vice chancellor Gary Martin said the new Murdoch International Discoverers’ Scholarship Scheme is part of its internationalisation programme and will apply to a wide range of Murdoch courses at the undergraduate level.
He said the partial scholarships were only available to students who applied for entry to Murdoch University for commencement in 2011 and that the scholarships would be used to offset the annual published course fees for the duration of the degrees.
“Under the scheme, all students who meet university entry requirements and are made an offer by the university will automatically be awarded the part tuition fee scholarship,” Martin said in a statement.
“Depending on the course selected, the scheme allowed for a reduction in annual course fees by between A$500 and A$5500,” he added.
Martin added that the Murdoch International Discoverers’ Scholarship Scheme was one of a number of initiatives that the University had developed to enhance international students’ experiences at Murdoch.
“We have also introduced a dedicated 24/7 Student Support telephone service, the first in Australia, so that international students can be reassured that whatever the time of day or night, they can contact somebody if there is a need,” he said.
Among other facilities in the campus will be the new Student Centre where students can seek advice on courses offered and visa-related matters.
