Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Tropical Variability Dynamist CSIRO Australia
As a result of CSIRO Office of the Chief Executive Science Leader Award to Dr Wenju Cai we are seeking to appoint two scientists.
You will join the Climate Variability and Climate Change Program in the area of climate diagnostics, and climate change detection and attribution, focusing on the response of tropical Indo-Pacific variability to climate change. You will conduct research in understanding tropical processes responsible for and/or impacting on Australian climate variability and change, in particular, how the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) will respond to climate change.
Specifically you will:
* Manipulate data sets for research into ENSO, the IOD, and PDO, and their pathway for impacts on Australia climate
* Undertake a broad range of tasks of high complexity, including temporal and spatial analysis of various feedback processes governing the properties of ENSO, the IOD, and the PDO, interactions among themselves and with the mean state of tropical climate, and their possible changes.
* Benchmark climate models in terms of simulation of associated mechanisms and impacts.
Location: Aspendale, Victoria
Salary: $73K – $80K pa plus up to 15.4% Superannuation
Ref No: 2011/252
To be successful you will have:
* A PhD or equivalent in tropical climate (oceanography/meteorology), or related field.
* Experience in analysis and/or numerical modelling of ENSO and/or the IOD, and in handling large climate datasets, multi-model analysis and statistics.
* Demonstrated strong ability in writing computer programs and in data analysis method/approach and techniques.
These positions will be based at Aspendale, Victoria, as part of the Centre for Australian Weather and Climate Research (CAWCR) – a partnership between CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology.
